A Ceremony to Inaugurate the Myanmar National Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Medical Training Centre took place at its venue in Dekhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on 13 June. On behalf of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister, the SAC Secretary Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe, SAC members, union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, deputy ministers, departmental officials, rectors and professors, central-level medical superintendents, medical experts, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, officials of China CDC, representatives of ASEAN countries and invitees attended the event.
Firstly, the SAC Secretary Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe pressed the button to inaugurate the building of Myanmar National Centre for Disease Control and Medical Training Centre and delivered a remark as follows:
- It is necessary to enhance the capacity of health workers in conducting preventive measures and responses and to apply modern techniques.
- The establishment of the Myanmar CDC Centre can upgrade the health standard of the country, keeping abreast of other countries and implementing international health regulations and global health security more effectively.
- The Center will focus on the prevention, response and control of various natural disasters and public health emergencies that may occur throughout Myanmar. Moreover, the center would be much beneficial to Myanmar since it can provide various healthcare services at one place, and conduct research activities.
- The Myanmar CDC was jointly built with the Medical Training Center so that it will be able to deliver high-quality public health courses and turn out high-quality new generation human resources in the health arena.
The Myanmar CDC and Medical Training Centre includes biosafety level 1, 2 and 3 laboratories, pesticides and chemical poisoning testing laboratories, blood, serum and molecular testing laboratories, and electron microscopy and gas ESifh liquid testing laboratories.
The establishment of Myanmar CDC and Medical Training Centre comes to set a historical record of China-Myanmar “Paukpaw” friendship. Additionally, it can conduct prevention and control of public health emergency cases of COVID-19 world pandemic; newly infectious diseases and other infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria; prevention and control of infectious diseases; and preparation and response to natural disaster and public health emergency cases in the health arena. Moreover, it can carry out other tasks such as international health-related issues, extended programme on vaccination and research activities.
