Union Ministers Receive Sri Lankan Ambassador

Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation U Min Naung, Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than and Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win received Mrs. Ponnamperuma Arachchige Prabashini Ponnamperuma, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, at the respective ministries in Nay Pyi Taw on 12 and 13 June.

  • During the meeting between Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture and Sri Lankan Ambassador, both sides candidly exchanged views on the matters pertaining to the bilateral relations in the religious sector and mutual respect for each other, the establishment of Buddhist University in Kandy, sending invitations to attend Buddha Tooth Relic procession festival to be held in Kandy this year, and the enhancement of cooperation in the religious and cultural sectors between two countries.
  • During the meeting between Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation and Sri Lankan Ambassador, both sides discussed on the matters relating to the agricultural trade between the two countries, the investment and technical cooperation opportunities, and the cooperation in offshore fisheries in accordance with international maritime territorial agreements.
  • During the meeting between Union Minister for Industry and Sri Lankan Ambassador, they discussed the turning out of industrial, skilled workers required for Myanmar’s industries, pharmaceutical production, and the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), as well as iron, steel, cement, and garment manufacturing.
  • During the meeting between Union Minister for Health and Sri Lankan Ambassador, they discussed on the matters pertaining to the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the health sector, the collaboration between public and private pharmaceutical industries, the development of traditional medicine industries, the cooperation in the traditional medicine production sector, and the mutual experience exchange and training of traditional medical practitioners.

Present at the respective events were deputy ministers, permanent-secretaries, and departmental officials.
