A railway worker found a homemade bomb hidden inside a plastic box between Theinseik and Donwun stations on the Yangon-Mawlamyaing railway section on 4 June and reported it to the relevant security forces. The regional security forces successfully deactivated the device.
Due to the incident, No. 81 passenger up-train, No. 685 and No. 687 stone trains, and No. (271) freight train were under delay. After mine-clearance, the trains were able to leave.
Since 1st February 2021 until now, insurgents and terrorist have launched 206 IED attacks on railroad and in the area of stations in Myanmar’s railway network, blown up 165 railway bridges, and set fire to stations and staff housings for 42 times.
Although the Government has set the goal of improving railways and infrastructure to make public travel and freight transportation convenient, smooth and speedy, it has been continuously planning and implementing projects to upgrade the rail transport system. By contrast, terrorists and insurgents are committing repeatedly acts of violence on railroads, endangering the lives of passengers who are traveling with trains. The entire local people are strong opposing and condemning such terrorist acts, reports say.
