SAC Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun’s Clarification on AA Insurgent and Terrorist Group’s Allegations regarding Byine Phyu Village in Sittwe

It is found that AA terrorists of insurgents are circulating fabrication and allegations regarding Byine Phyu village in Sittwe. Kanpyin Ywa Haung and Kanpyin Yea Thit villages are located in the north of Byine Phyu village in Sittwe. Byine Phyu village is also located in the north of Sittwe. Since the past, AA terrorists of insurgents taking position in the village, have launched drone attacks as well as reckless shell attacks against Sittwe. Responding to the tip-off about AA insurgents’ arrival in Byine Phyu, Kanpyin Ywa Haung and Kanpyin Ywa Thit villages, the Tatmadaw conducted security duty for Byine Phyu village on 29 May. At first, the situation is in a state of calm. When security personnel were in the village, they interrogated those under suspicion other than local residents. Meanwhile, three people who are surely not Byine Phyu villages attempted to attack security personnel after he tried to take by force the firearm of a security force member. Under the circumstances, a security force member unavoidably fired at them. At the scene, three men who tried to take by force the firearm died. So, some 20 people under suspicion have been detained and interrogated there. During the incident, the death incident of 40 people and the rape case of women did not happen at all, but AA made heinous propaganda as if it did.

Why AA made such heinous propaganda is that AA insurgents killed Bengalis in Buthidaung Township of northern Rakhine State. Since civil society organizations, media, some global organizations and some other international organizations put pressure on AA group which torched the houses of Bengalis, AA started to make allegations against security personnel. It was the worst time in Buthidaung Township on 17 and 18 May. At around 9:30 PM on 17 May, the information was received about the arrival of AA in Buthidaung Township. AA insurgents torched the houses of Bengalis and drove Bengali people out of the town. Moreover, they set fire to the nearby Bengali villages in Buthidaung such as Ou The village and other Bengali villages to the east of Buthidaung. We again received the news about AA’s massacre of Bengalis, along with strong evidence. Therefore, AA group is trying to cover up their crimes.

I had said once. AA group is practicing unilateral extreme racism and unilateral instigation for racism. To be exact, AA group has profound hatred of Bamar people, Bengali people and other minor ethnic groups such as Mro, Khimi, Thet  and Daignet. Moreover, AA is an organization which relies on the income earned form illicit drugs. I once have said in the past about drug-trafficking of AA members and AA supporters. Recently, a responsible citizen provide tip-off that the fugitive Thant Zin Oo, an in-charge of supply for AA, contacted with the fugitive May Yu Tun, an in-charge of supply in Buthidaung for AA insurgent group and has planned drug-trafficking to Sittwe and Buthidaung from Yangon. According to the tip-off, authorities arrested the perpetrators in Tamwe Township, Yangon, on 21 March. The perpetrator Tun Thein Aung and his wife were arrested. According to their confessions, when authorities searched MV-Sein Pyae Min cargo ship running Yangon-Sittwe journey, which docked at no (2) jetty of Bayint Naung port in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, they confiscated one billion kyats worth of one million stimulant tablets labeling “WY” inside the cardboard boxes. The perpetrators agreed the offer made by the fugitive Thant Zin Oo, who lives in Boutthee Su ward of Sittwe, to make drug-trafficking to Sittwe from Yangon so that they would receive money in return. The perpetrators then loaded those drugs on MV-Sein Pyae Min cargo ship.

There have been nine arrests of drug-trafficking carried out by AA insurgents between 2016 and March 2024. Those drugs were estimated at MMK 294.82 billion. On 29 May, a vehicle left Yangon for Pyay to send goods for AA terrorist goods. Tun Tun Win and Tayza were in the vehicle. Authorities checked the vehicle and seized 10 bags of illicit drugs labeling “WY” (20 packs in brick shape in a bag), nine bags of illicit drugs labeling “WY” (10 packs in brick shape in a bag), totaling 2.9 million stimulant tablets worth MMK 2,000 million, along with them. It is witnessed that AA terrorists of insurgents are carrying out unilateral extreme instigation for racism, massacre of people and arson attacks in Rakhine State as well as drug-trafficking that can ruin the lives of people in the country.

Ethnic people and citizens should be aware of extreme actions and drug trafficking, that can ruin all Rakhine people, carried out by AA terrorist of insurgent group. I would remind Myanmar citizens to oppose such AA groups’ actions that would ruin Rakhine people as well as all Myanmar citizens.
