Plans Underway to Open Singkhon Border Checkpoint carrying out Trade Activities with Myanmar’s Mawtaung Border as a Permanent Checkpoint

Thailand’s officials have been planning to upgrade the Singkhon border gate in Thailand connecting with Mawtaung border checkpoint in the Southern part of Myanmar as a permanent checkpoint in order to bolster bilateral cross-border trade.

In this regard, Minister for Defence, Minister for Foreign Affairs and party visited the Singkhon border on 14 May 2024 to be upgraded as a permanent checkpoint. Thailand had arranged to upgrade Singkhon border as a permanent checkpoint soon aiming to accelerate border trade with Myanmar and conduct international trade.

Plans are underway to discuss with Myanmar regarding the development of Singkhon border checkpoint, trade potential, benefits and difficulties upon upgrading the permanent checkpoint, it is reported.
