Central Bank of Myanmar Governor Meets Thai Banks’ Officials

Governor Daw Than Than Swe of the Central Bank of Myan­mar met officials from Siam Com­mercial Bank, Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank and Krung Thai Bank met on 27 May at the meeting hall of the Yangon branch of the Central Bank of Myanmar in order to discuss investment in banking service for foreign currency between Myanmar and Thailand, and remittance of Myanmar migrant workers through legal channel.

During the meeting, the Governor said the following points:

  • Further in­vestment of Thailand in Myan­mar.
  • Education and health-related matters through Hundi actions to be cooper­ated by Thai banks.
  • Provision of financial support (pre-shipment export financing and post-ship­ment export financing) to further develop trade between Thailand and Myanmar.
  • Matters to be supported by banks for the facilitation of smooth remittance of the wages of Myan­mar workers in Thailand to their families.
  • Matters related to foreign exchange rates and facilitation of for­eign currency transfers between the two countries.

CBM Governor Daw Than Than Swe, deputy governor, directors-general, CEOs and of­ficials of Siam Commercial Bank, Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, and Krung Thai Bank attended the meetin, it is reported.
