Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, accompanied by the entourages, Mandalay Region Chief Minister, Central Command Commander and officials, paid homage to the eminent pagodas Shwezigon Pagoda and Htilo Minlo Pagoda on 26 May. The Senior General presented cash rewards for service personnel working at ancient heritage exploration and preservation in Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone through the officials.
Following this, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and wife, and party inspected preservation of ancient cultural heritages in the precincts of the Shwezigon Pagoda and Htilo Minlo Pagoda, pagoda digital directory website in which the history of ancient pagodas and stone inscriptions of Myanmar can be easily accessed, and future plans. After that, the Senior General left the necessary instructions. They then offered flowers, water, oil lights to the Buddha Images and donated cash for all-round renovation of the pagodas.
Heavy rains in May 2023 occurred in Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone in NyaungU District of Mandalay Region, inundating some famous pagodas and damaging eight ancient pagodas and religious buildings. As such, these edifices were maintained in ancient works in accord with the guidance of the SAC Chairman Prime Minister during his inspection tour of the area. Currently, an emphasis is being placed on lessening loss and waste of buildings in the ancient cultural zone and vicinity in natural disasters and greening of natural environment.
