Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Meets District-level Departmental Officials and Town Elders from Town of Chauk, Magway Region

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, his entourage members, the Magway Region chief minister, the Central Command commander and officials, met district level departmental officials and town elders from the Town of Chauk in Magway Region at the meeting hall of the General Administration Department in Chauk, and frankly discussed with them about regional development on 25 May.

First, acting administrator of Chauk District U Kyaw Soe presented a comprehensive report covering various aspects of the region including agricultural and livestock activities, installation of heat shelters to combat the intense summer heat, further plans to construct more, strategies for successful tree planting and forest management in the face of high temperatures, and challenges in accessing drinking water, urgent need to establish a truck terminal yard to alleviate traffic congestion in the town, necessities of regional development and other necessities. Responding to the report, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister stressed the following points and it was followed by discussions of Union Ministers:

  • The Government is continuing its plan to enhance greenery in 13 districts. Again, the Government will conduct a special program to plant trees and forests along the roads in Chauk Township.
  • Locals need to plant trees around their houses and in the yards. A project to pump water from the Ayeyawady River will meet the area's water demand.

In addition, SAC Chairman Prime Minister added the following points regarding local development:

  • To boost the Chauk region's economy, it is essential to manufacture more local products, and agriculture is the country's primary economic activity.
  • This necessitates acquiring breed of seeds, proper land reclamation, sufficient irrigation, and correct cultivation practices.
  • Fertilizers are being imported while other fertilizers are being manufactured locally for agriculture.
  • Natural fertilizers like humus manure and livestock waste should be efficiently utilized.
  • Livestock activities should focus on direct support of food for the region.
  • Food surpluses like meat, fish, and eggs can be sold to regions like Bagan, a popular destination for pilgrims, and other regions so that the region's socio-economic status will be boosted.
  • The Chauk region has been an area that had a good industrial base with oil production and it should be an area where MSME businesses are operated successfully.
  • It is necessary to support improvement of education level in the region and it Chauk had already had good basic factors of education.
  • In order to learn education well, having good health is also important. To be a healthy life, it is necessary to be able to live with nutritious food. Having knowledge will only be able to know healthy life styles.
  • For peace and stability and rule of law in the region, the people need to live and work in an orderly manner and act in unity. The region will develop only if there is peace and stability.
  • Regarding the weather, Chauk Township is a region with hot weather. In the periods of severe weather, it is necessary to build large buildings where the elderly and those who are not in good health can take shelter to escape the heat.
  • Therefore, it can be considered to build replicas of the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Swedawmyat Pagoda with an inner hall which will be able to accommodate a large number of people in cooperation of officials and donors in tropical areas.

After the meeting, the Senior General presented foodstuffs to the departmental officials as well as town elders and cordially greeted them, it is reported.
