Union Ministers and CBM Governor Receive Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar

National Security Adviser and State Administration Council Chairman’s Office (1) Union Minister Admiral Moe Aung, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khine, and Governor Daw Than Than Swe of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) received Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar Dr. Md Monwar Hossain at the relevant ministries on 23 and 24 May.

  • During the meeting between National Security Adviser and State Administration Council Chairman’s Office (1) Union Minister and Bangladeshi Ambassador, both sides frankly discussed cooperation in peace and stability in the border areas of the two countries, as well as friendship and security matters.
  • During the meeting of the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and Bangladeshi Ambassador, they discussed reciprocal visits of travelers between both countries, the need for cooperation between Myanmar, India, Nepal, and Bhutan to promote pilgrimages, the resumption of direct flights between Yangon and Daka-Yangon, the ongoing implementation of coastal transport agreements with relevant ministries, and matters related to the signing of MOUs on mutual economic interests and cooperation in tourism between the two countries.
  • During the meeting between CBM Governor Daw Than Than Swe and Bangladeshi Ambassador, they frankly discussed continuing the direct payment process with Bangladesh taka/Myanmar kyat in order to develop bilateral trade and further upgrade the banking sector that supports the trade.

Officials from the State Administration Councils Office, the Embassy of Bangladesh, and Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) deputy governors, the permanent secretary, and heads of departments also attended the meetings, reports say.
