The opening ceremony of the 33rd Annual Meeting of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MMCWA) took place at the meeting hall of MMCWA headquarters on 23 May, with the attendance of Honorary Patron of MMCWA Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman Prime Minister.
During the event,
- Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win said that more than 60 per cent out of over 54 million people in Myanmar are mothers and children. Therefore, the head of State gave a guideline to prioritize the maternal and child health issue and the better health and longer life expectancy of entire people.
- Next, the prize awarding ceremony for the winners of Nay Pyi Taw, Regions and States Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committees in the four sectors such as Education, Social, Economy and Health was continued and the honorary patrons Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe and Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win presented awards to the winners for the excellent performance.
- Then, the honorary patrons Daw Kyu Kyu Hla provided nutritious foods to the expectant mothers, gave the catch-up vaccines to children under five years and viewed round the sales of domestic products and traditional handworks displayed by Nay Pyi Taw, Regions and States Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committees.
- After that, the association secretary submitted the annual report for 2023 while the treasurer presented the 2022-2023 financial statement and 2023-2024 budget.
- Later, Nay Pyi Taw, Regions and States Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committees submitted their annual reports for 2023. The attendees discussed to make meeting decisions and adopt the future tasks.
Also present were the honorary patrons Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe, Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Deputy Minister Dr. Aye Tun, directors-general, medical superintendents, directors of the Departments of Public Health in Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states, MMCWA’s chairperson and central executive members, patrons, chairpersons and secretaries of Regions and States Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committees, officials from the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, Myanmar Women and Children Development Foundation, Myanmar Red Cross Society and Myanmar Health Assistant Association, and invited guests, it is reported.
