The State Administration Council Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made clarification on Myanmar’s stand over Taiwan new President’s inauguration on 20 May as follows:
- Myanmar is one of the earliest support countries on the foundation of People’s Republic of China (PRC).
- Such countries are strategic partnerships with China and they are good neighbouring countries who have maintained Pauk-Phaw relations with China.
- Myanmar’s Tatmadaw had launched 11 military operations against and crushed Koumintang troops who intruded into Myanmar territory after their defeat. During the battles, Tatmadaw members and other Myanmar people had sacrificed their lives and body parts.
- Myanmar has no diplomatic ties with Taiwan and it does not recognize it as a nation.
The Maj-Gen said that Myanmar has firmly supported One China Policy since China’s foundation. Myanmar will continue its stand firmly and always make emphasis on bilateral amicable relations on all-round sectors, it is reported.
