Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms claiming that security forces shelled Lin Thi village of Thandwe Township, killing 10 civilians. It is just an allegation. In reality, security forces exchanged fire with AA insurgents near Shwe Hlay village. AA insurgents willfully shelled and launched drone attacks against residential areas in towns and villages but they circulated rumors about the Tatmadaw in order to create people’s misunderstanding on the Tatmadaw.
  • “RFA”, an unofficial media source, spread misinformation on social media platforms stating that a military unit seized 900 bags of rice that were delivered by WFP towards IDPs. It is just a groundless rumor.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms alleging that security forces raided and torched Kaimagyi village in Yesagyo Township. It is just fabrication. In truth, security personnel did not take any community security measures.
  • “Myay Latt A Than”, an unofficial media source, posted false information on social media platforms claiming that security forces set fire to Ywa Shay vilalge in Myingyan Township and killed five civilians. It is just misinformation. In fact, security forces fought with PDF terrorists near the village. During the battle, PDF terrorists shelled security personnel, landing in the village and burning houses.
  • “DVB TV News”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel killed one local resident and have detained 30 other people in Yay Ngan village of Latpadan Township. It is just allegation. In reality, security forces spotted explosives planted by terrorists on village-to-village road and confiscated them. Again, they have seized two dead terrorists with serious shrapnel wounds and improvised mines.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
