Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “RFA Burmese”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms claiming that security forces looted valuable items from local people’s abandoned houses in villages of Kyaikmaraw Township. It is just an allegation. In reality, security forces have just conducted security measures in the area to prevent violent acts of terrorists in the villages.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security forces killed and arrested people and burned down houses in Kanthit village of Pakokku Township. It is just false information. In reality, security forces doing security duty near the said-village spotted a temporary camp where terrorists hide. Then, they exchanged fire with terrorists but the latter torched the houses on their way to retreat.
  • “DVB TV News” and “Myay Latt Athan”, two unofficial media sources, posted false information on social media platforms stating that the Tatmadaw mortor shell landed in the rubber farm of Zee Pyaung village in Thein Zayat Town, killing one civilian. The next fake news is that U-Dane, Mway Teoak and Mway Kutoeseik villages were burned down and some 20 houses were gutted by fire. These are just groundless rumors. In truth, PDF terrorists taking position in the school of Mway Kutoeseik village shelled security personnel who were fighting other PDF terrorists near U-Dane village. The shells landed in the U-Dane village, burning houses in the village.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread speculation on social media platforms claiming that the Tatmadaw launched naval and air strikes against Kanat Thiri village of Thayet Chaung Township, killing three civilians. It is just allegation. In reality, no battle broke out at the village and no naval and air strikes were launched on it.
  • “Tachileik News Agancy”, an unofficial media source, circulated misinformation on social media platforms alleging that the Tatmadaw launched chemical weapon attack in the battle near Theyetgon village. It is just misinformation. In fact, terrorists are intentionally spreading rumors because they have encountered heavy casualties in the battle with security personnel.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
