Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Meets State, District and Township level Departmental Officials and Town Elders in Kengtung, Shan State (East)

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met state, district and township level departmental officials and local elders in Kengtung, Shan State (East) at Kengtung Townhall on 12 May and discussed matters related to regional development. Present together with the Senior General were SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, SAC members, union ministers, officials, town elders, local ethnic people and officials.

First, Chief Minister U Aung Aung reported on local points, regional development undertakings, implementation as per the guidance of the Head of State, undertakings for multi-sector development. Again, town elders and officials presented reports on the need for extension of flights to Kengtung area, for the upgrade of government technological high school and for matters related to regional development.

Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo and the chief minister explained ongoing efforts for current flights to Shan State (East) and plan for extension of flights based on demand, and further undertakings to be presented to the relevant ministries for the upgrade of technological high school extension project after making evaluation.

Afterwards, the Senior General said the following salient points:

• Shan State (East) was notorious for its drug business in the past. The government has been carrying out eradication of narcotic drugs as a national task for many years.
• Drug trafficking continues because of weakness in the rule of law and regional instability.
• As the government is effectively combatting online gambling and online scams in Shan State (East), local residents need to participate in such efforts.  
• The government has provided robust support for manufacturing local products in Shan State (East).
• Residents need to manufacture marketable products made of crops of the region with the use of modern techniques.
• It is necessary to gain adequate water supply and inputs for agriculture and livestock breeding. In fact, Shan State (East) possesses sound foundations to success­fully manage manufacturing of products.
• In carrying out manufacturing tasks, emphasis must be placed on modern industries rather than on traditional ones. To do so, it is necessary to turn out competent human resources instilled with knowledge and wisdom education must be encouraged.
• The government has opened agriculture, livestock breeding and technical high schools to develop human resources in the agriculture, livestock breeding and industrial sectors.
• The government has taken necessary measures for tourism development in Shan State (East). Tasks are being carried out to upgrade Tachilek and Kengtung airports and foreign tourists from neighbouring countries will visit there by flights.
• As the Kengtung region boasts favorable conditions such as natural forests and mountains and ancient heritage for the success of tourism, measures must be taken for tourism development.
• As the government has been concerted efforts for all round development of the country, regions and states are required to do the same for regional development.
• Since peace and stability are required for regional development, local residents are urged to make efforts for the development in their region.

Then, the Senior General cordially met town elders in Kengtung at the guest house of the Triangle Region Command and attended to their needs reported.

After the meet, the Senior General presented Maravijara Buddha Image replicas and foodstuffs to town elders, and greeted them cordially, it is reported.
