Arrangements Underway to Ensure Uninterrupted Communication Links following Kyoneik Bridge Destruction

On 11 May, KNLA group members supporting terrorism and PDF terrorists blew up the Kyoneik Reinforced-concrete Bridge, which is being used for public purpose, aiming to disturb the country’s peace and stability and the rule of law, suspend the flow of goods in the region and hinder the development of socio-economic status.

On 12 May, the chief minister, along with officials, arrived at the Kyoneik Bridge to inspect the situation where the collapse of 100 percent of the embankment is causing difficulties for both people and vehicles to pass through. The chief minister instructed officials from the Ministry of Construction and the Shwe Thanlwin Highway Company to conduct repair works as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted flow of goods in the region, prevent delays in public travel, and coordinated efforts to meet these needs.

The Kyoneik Bridge, a 95-foot-long and 41-foot-wide reinforced concrete bridge with a 60 tonnes of maximum withstanding, situated on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway in Thaton Township, is utilized by the community for daily social and economic activities, it is reported.
