Tatmadaw Performs Sixth Liver Transplant Surgery

Tatmadaw has achieved significant milestones in the field of liver transplant surgery: the first successful procedure was performed in 2022 with two patients, followed by the second, third, and fourth procedures in 2023 involving nine patients each time. In 2024, the fifth procedure was conducted successfully with three patients.

Now, Tatmadaw is preparing for its sixth surgery, which also has three patients. The first day of the liver transplant procedure took place on 11 May at the Special Treatment Centre of the No. 1 Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) in Mingaladon Township.

In this operation, the Tatmadaw surgical team collaborated with a team of Indian surgeons to perform surgery and the entire operation lasted 11 hours.

Both the donor and recipient are reported to be in good health post-surgery, under close monitoring by relevant specialists, medical officers, and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The officials from Military Hospitals observed the liver transplant surgery and it will continue on 12 and 13 May, it is reported.
