Officials Make Necessary Arrangements for Strong Wind Victims, Provide Cash Assistance

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win and officials attended a discussion session under the theme “Climate Change Vulnerability Reduction Action Plan” on 3 May. During the event, Union Minister highlighted the Ministry is conducting necessary measures of providing aids to disaster victims for vulnerability reduction, and prevention and preparation in advance and reduction of climate change vulnerability.

  • On 2 May, old trees and some residential houses were collapsed and roads were blocked due to rain and strong winds in Mandalay and Sagaing Regions. Moreover, 75 residential houses, 26 electricity poles and four telecommunication towers were collapsed. In this regard, officials timely conducted clean-up activities of debris.
  • Likewise, strong winds destroyed 24 residential houses and a monastery, and collapsed 156 residential houses and a monastery in Pobbathiri, Ottarathiri, and Zeyathiri and Pyinmana Townships in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory. Union Minister Dr. Soe Win and Nay Pyi Taw Council Chair provided rice, 122 Visses of palm oil, 16 kinds of rescue equipment, construction materials and MMK 18.2 million of cash assistance for the disaster victims of 24 households.

Later, Union Minister and Nay Pyi Taw Council Chair cordially met and spoke words of encouragement to the wind victims and coordinated with responsible officials to fulfil their needs, it is reported.
