On 1 May, No (901) Up train leaving Mahlwagon for Myitnge derailed at a location between Kanyutgwin Station and Nyaungbinthar Station in Pyu of Bago Region due to insurgents’ mine blast.
The mine blast temporarily cancelled two express train schedule because No (11) Up train carrying 288 passengers, which left Yangon for Mandalay, returned to Yangon and No (12) Down train carrying 174 passengers, which left Mandalay for Yangon, returned to Mandalay.
During the mine explosion, and 10 concrete sleepers railway measuring about 80 ft were destroyed on the down-railroad where project work is still working and 32 concrete sleepers railway measuring about 30 ft were destroyed. Local authorities and security personnel are timely making necessary repair works to resume train journeys.
Since 1 February 2021, terrorists and insurgents have launched 131 bomb/mine blasts, 54 mine attacks on rail bridges and 12 arson attacks on railway station and staff housing in the whole railway network, reports say.
The Government has managed to improve railway and infrastructure, upgrade rail transport projects to ensure public travel and freight transportation convenient, smooth and fast. By contrast, terrorists and insurgents have committed acts of violence heinously and repeatedly rail transportation in order to endanger travellers who travel by train. In this regard, the entire population is strongly opposing and condemning the terrorists, reports say.
