Myanmar Delegation led by Union Minister Admiral Moe Aung Participates in 12th Meeting of High-Ranking Officials on Security Issues

A Myanmar delegation led by Admiral Moe Aung, National Security Advisor and Union Minister at the Ministry of State Administration Council Chairman’s Office No. 4, attended the 12th Meeting of High-Ranking Officials on Security Issues which was held in St. Petersburg of Russian Federation from 23 to 25 April.

On 24 April, Union Minister Admiral Moe Aung and the Myanmar Consul-General in St Petersburg participated in the 4th ASEAN-Russia Meeting of High-Ranking Officials on Security Issues, jointly chaired by H.E. Mr. Nikolay Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, and a representative from Cambodia. During the meeting, the Myanmar delegate discussed the matters pertaining to counter-terrorism measures chaired by Myanmar and Russian Federation, security operation between ASEAN and Russian Federation, humanitarian assistance provided by ASEAN to Myanmar, Myanmar to serve as coordinator in ASEAN-Russia relations in the ASEAN-Russia cooperation, the security measures implementing for the country in Myanmar and ongoing processes of the State Administration Council by setting five-point roadmap.

After that, a delegation led by National Security Advisor and Union Minister attended the opening ceremony of the plenary meeting of the 12th Meeting of High-Ranking Officials on Security Issues. At the ceremony, President of the Russian Federation H.E. Vladimir Putin sent video message on extending words of greeting to the opening ceremony. Following this, the leaders of delegations discussed on the acquiring guarantee on the information security regarding the challenges and opportunities for the multi-polar of world order including emerging States.

On 25 April, National Security Advisor and Union Minister participated in the second day of the plenary meeting of the 12th Meeting of High-Ranking Officials on Security Issues held under the theme “Conservation of National Characteristics and the Values of Traditions and Customs in containing the International Security, Peace and Stability”. In the afternoon, Maj-Gen Aung Myo Thant of Ministry of Defence, a member of Myanmar delegation, participated in the round-table discussion regarding the major problems of the protection of people during natural and man-made disasters and armed conflicts.

National Security Advisor and Union Minister, currently in the Russian Federation, held bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Nikolay Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. At the meeting, discussions were made on friendly cooperation and multi-sectoral cooperation between Myanmar and Russian Federation, technical cooperation, counter-terrorism and security measures cooperation and ongoing processes of the State Administration Council by adopting five-point roadmap.

Moreover, National Security Advisor and Union Minister held bilateral meetings with leaders of representatives: H.E. Mr. Chen Wenqing, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of People’s Republic of China and current chairman of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Committee; H.E. Mr. Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor to India; H.E. Mr. Tarique Ahmed Siddique, National Security Advisor to Bangladesh; and H.E. Mr. Somvanh Saylongpha, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Discussions covered topics such as border security, eradication of terrorism, combating drug trade, bilateral relations, BIMSTEC security matters, and security and information exchange, and implementation of the five-point roadmap adopted by the State Administration Council.

Then, the Admiral also met with leaders of representatives from African countries: H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Adem, a senior advisor to the National Intelligence and Security Service of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; and Mozambican Interior Affairs Minister Mr. Pascoal Ronda. Views are frankly exchanged on the matters relating to friendly relations and cooperation, Myanmar’s current situation and implementation of the five-point roadmap adopted by the State Administration Council.

While the members of Myanmar delegation were attending the related meetings, the National Security Advisor and Union Minister observed the military technological exhibition booths displayed by the military technological companies at Expo forum.

On 26 April, a delegation led by National Security Advisor and Union Minister met with Mr. Grigoriev Evgeny Dmitrievich, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, and discussed the bilateral friendship and cooperation between the two countries. After that, the trainee officers studying in St. Petersburg were met, gave necessary instruction and provided foodstuff.

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister Admiral Moe Aung arrived back in Yangon on 27 April and they were welcomed by the officials at the Yangon International Airport, reports say.
