State Administration Council Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun Makes Clarifications on Terrorists’ Electrically-initiated Rocket Attack on PyinOoLwin

NUG and PDF terrorists launched an electrically-initiated 107-mm rocket attack on Pyin Oo Lwin between the time of 9:30 PM and 10 PM on 14 April. With regards to this incident, the State Administration Council (SAC) Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made clarifications as follows:

• The rocket shells landed on eight points in Pyin Oo Lwin: Sabei Ward, Bala Minhtin Ward, Aungmye Zeyar Monastery, orthopaedics surgical ward of Public Hospital, the surroundings of Luxury Hotel and civilians’ houses in the Ward (5).
• The terrorists’ rocket shells killed two monks at the Aungmye Zeyar Monastery as well as two other civilians and injured 12 civilians. The worst thing is that 11 civilians including children were severely injured as the rocket shells landed on the orthopaedics surgical ward of Public Hospital.
• NUG and PDF terrorists are responsible for such terrorist attacks. Recently, three rocket shells exploded at the scene of the entrance to PyinOoLwin on Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road as the terrorists launched an electrically-initiated rocket attack on the town.
• Witnessing the afore-mentioned incidents, it could be vividly seen that terrorists attacked on all pivotal points in PyinOoLwin although they said that they just attacked on military targets.
• The Public Hospital, the surroundings of Luxury Hotel and civilians’ houses in the Ward (5) are obvious locations in the town. Terrorists tend to give the groundless reason to cover up their terrorist strikes if an incident occurs that they just attacked military targets. In reality, it can be seen that terrorists only attack on main public areas in order to disturb public security.
• The weapons/ammunition the terrorists used are the ones being used by EAOs. It can be reviewed that terrorists received such kind of weapons/ammunition from the EAOs who had infiltrated in PyinOoLwin in the past and the EAOs operating in northern part of the country.
• The electrically-initiated rockets used by terrorist are seen upgraded to reach more distance. The Government will continue to carry out counter-terrorism operations definitely.

The Maj-Gen said that the Government also grieves over the casualties like the bereaved. Necessary searches and security measures are being taken. The people are also required to cooperate in combatting acts of terrorism in order to live peacefully.
