IED Explosion Takes Place at Motorbike Parking behind Mayor Thingyan Pavilion in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region

On 14 April, the second day of Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival, an explosion of two IEDs installed in the exhaust-pipe of a motorbike took place at the motorbike parking behind Mayor Thingyan Pavilion in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region. PDF terrorists are responsible for the explosion that injured 12 people including five children who are participating in Thingyan festival.

Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival is held yearly with the aim to preserve Myanmar traditions and culture, to serve the State’s duty fully in the New Year after they are splashed with water, and to preserve the essence of traditional culture and national characteristics. Terrorists’ willful IED attack on innocent civilians including children participating in the water festival constitutes a war crime that violates the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and the international law.

Authorities are taking further measures to arrest and carry out legal proceedings against the terrorists who committed terrorist acts, reports say.
