Terrorists Launch Mine Attack on a Train Loading Gravel between Theinzeik and Donwun Stations in Bago-Mawlamyine Rail Segment in Thaton Township

On 10 April, a landmine explosion took place on the railroad in Bago-Mawlamyine rail segment between Theinzeik and Donwun stations while No (686) down train with gravel was passing by the scene. The said-train was leaving Theinzeik for Donwun station caused the derailment.

As a result of the explosion, 741 passengers being taken in No (81) regular up train leaving Yangon were transported to Thaton Station by eight vehicles. Moreover, 298 passengers being taken in No (82) regular down train were further transported to Kyaikto and continued to Yangon by No (82) down train.

Similarly, a landmine explosion took place on the railroad in Yangon-Mandalay rail segment between Taungoo and Thaungtaikone stations in Oaktwin township of Bago region where there was no train service during the project.

Since 1st February 2021 until now, insurgents and terrorist have launched 130 IED attacks on railroad and in the area of stations in Myanmar’s railway network, blown up 53 railway bridges, and set fire to stations and staff housings for 12 times.

The Government is launching projects to upgrade railway transport system for convenient public travel and goods transportation. By contrast, terrorists and insurgents are committing repeatedly acts of violence on state-owned locomotives, carriages, railroad, bridges, passengers and goods, endangering the lives of passengers who are traveling with trains. The entire local people are strong opposing and condemning such terrorist acts, reports say.
