Over 1,857 Disasters Hit Myanmar in 2023-24 FY, Providing more than K3.289 Billion to Disaster Victims

In the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year, a total of 1,857 disasters including 653 wind disasters have occurred in the country, destroying more than 680,000 households including more than 110,000 religious buildings and 24,000 residential houses. According to the Department of Disaster Management, the government provided more than K3.289 billon to the disaster-affected victims.

          Through the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, relief aids were provided to the disaster-hit areas. Moreover, the disaster preparedness measures and public awareness activities for disaster prevention were conducted in disaster-prone areas across the country.

          From 1 January to 25 March 2024, strong winds have occurred in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Sagaing, Taninthayi, Bago and Mandalay Regions, and Shan State, and it destroyed 174 houses and affected 721 people. In this regard, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement reportedly provided relief aids to the said victims.
