Meeting held for 2024 Population and Housing Census

A work coordination meeting on 2024 Nationwide Population and Housing Census was held in Nay Pyi on 9 April. Chairman of the Central Census Commission Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, Chairperson and members of Nay Pyi Taw Census Supervisory Committee, deputy ministers for Immigration and Population U Htay Hlaing and Dr. Myo Thant, members of Nay Pyi Taw Council, district, township, ward and village census

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the following importance of census enumeration:

  • The 2024 Population and Household Census are being conducted to obtain reliable basic statistics for the country after 10 years of the 2014 Myanmar Population and Housing Census.
  • Changes related to population can necessarily occur between 2014 and 2024 due to COVID-19 pandemic, terrorist strikes and migration at home and abroad.
  • Calculation has been made at the estimated population of 56 million and 13 million households in 2024 based on the facts by village tract/ward/township/district in regions and states.
  • In terms of nationwide survey implementation, there will be 80,000 census units and 110,000 collection units. It is scheduled to collect data with a total of 42,000 census personnel. In Nay Pyi Taw, 1,094 census personnel are to be tasked for collection population data.
  • The population in question is based on the De Facto concept, which involves the estimation of people where they are found. census personnel will use tablets and collect information in Computer Assisted Personal Interviews-CAPI).
  • Enumeration will be conducted nationwide for 15 days from 1st to 15th October. The reference time of census has set the midnight of September 30th, 2024. 68 questionnaires for the households and 18 questions for organizations will be enumerated.
  • Efforts will be made to issue pilot census at the end of December 2024. Instructor courses and replicating courses for census personnel will be run in August 2024. Central-level instructor course will be run in Nay Pyi Taw. Special Instructor Course will be conducted in nay Pyi Taw and other regions and states. Dietrict-level Instructor Course will be conducted in 126 areas of district-level and Census Personnel Course will be run in 900 areas of township-level.

Then, the Union Minister handed over supplies related to census to U Tin Maung Swe, the Chairperson of Nay Pyi Taw Census Committee.
