Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial subversive media, alleged that security personnel have arrested a 15-year-old youth Mg Phoe Chit in Aung Chanthar model village of Tatgon Township in Nay Pyi Taw on April 3 under the reason for serving military service. It is just allegation. In truth, a person for serving military service is stated that any male citizen who has turned the age of 18 but has not yet turned the age of 35 under the provision of Sevtion (B) of Chapter (1) of the People’s Military Service Law. So, the rumor is just totally groundless.
  • An unofficial subversive media circulated false information on social media stating that the Tatmadaw launched an airstrike and shell attacks against Kyauk Sakhan village in Moemauk of Kachin State on 3 and 4 April, damaging a half of the village. It is just an allegation. In reality, KIA and PDF terrorists shelled and fired at security personnel, straying from its route and destroying the houses in the village.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial subversive media, spread misinformation on social media claiming that the Tatmadaw launched a cluster bomb attack on Auk Chia village of Mindat Township in Chin State on 3 April. The attack injured five civilians including two children. It is just a vague rumour. In truth, there was no flight on that day.
  • An unofficial subversive media distributed fabrication on social media stating that the Tatmadaw military columns set fire to Shartaw village of Shwebo Township, forcing all the locals to flee from the village. It is just fabrication. In fact, PDF terrorists shelled and launched a drone attack against security personnel. Then they burned down the village that forced all villagers to flee from the village.
  • “DVB”, an unofficial subversive media, circulated rumors on social media stating that money collection has been severely carried out since March from every house in urban ward and villages of Kharan Township in Yangon Region under the pretext of providing financial assistance for those who are going to serve military service. It is just a misinformation.
  • Unofficial subversive media distributed false news on social media accusing that security personnel launched a drone attack on local residents in Daung Thar village of Pauk Township in Magway Region while they are harvesting onions, injuring nine people. It is just groundless accusation. In truth, those media are willfully circulating fake news on social media network to create public panic and to feel misunderstanding over security personnel.

   Since the People’s Military Service Law has come into force, unofficial subversive media and those who don't want community peace have only been spreading propaganda to mislead the public with false information.
