Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla Look into Preparations for Final Rites of Presiding Patron of Naga Hnakaung Monastery in Tachileik and Fulfill Requirem

Presiding Patron of Naga Hnakaung Monastery of Tachilek in Shan State (East) State Ovadacariya Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Dr. Bhaddanta Dhammasiri passed away on 8 February 2024. The remains of the Sayadaw are being kept at Naga Hnakaung Monastery for public obeisance. In this regard, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, accompanied by senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the SAC members, union ministers and officials, looked into the preparations for successful holding of the final rites of the Sayadaw, on 5 April, as follows:

  • The SAC Chairman Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and wife, and party paid homage to the remains of the Presiding Patron of Naga Hnakaung Monastery, and viewed preparations to convey the remains of the Sayadaw to the place where the final rites will be held, and visited the gallery of documentary photos of the Sayadaw.
  • The Senior General and wife donated offertories to the venerable Sayadaws led by Presiding Patron of Thiladhamma Kontha Tawya Monastery Wasipeik Sayadaw who are members of the committee to hold final rites of the Sayadaw and Mongphone Sayadaw. They then supplicated preparations for the successful holding of the final rites as well as a plan to showcase the utensils of the Sayadaw at a museum, and sought advice from the Sayadaws.
  • On arrival at the venue where the funeral rites will be held, the Senior General and wife, and party inspected preparations for the final rite ceremony and gave instructions on pleasantness and cleanness of the road on which the remains will be conveyed, convenience of members of the religious order including monks and nuns who will attend the funeral rites in travelling and accommodation, and to hold the ceremony on a grandest scale.

Due to his lifelong religious and welfare activities with concerted efforts, the State conferred Agga Maha Pandita Title, Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Title, Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Title, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Title. Neighbouring country: Thailand also conferred religious titles on the Sayadaw. The Sayadaw continued his religious work till he passed away at age of 96 (vasa 77), it is reported.
