State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Defence Admiral Tin Aung San, in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Servants, addressed the 3/2024 coordination meeting of the central body in Nay Pyi Taw on 2 April as follows:
- The central body is making efforts to launch the 1st batch of training in April 2024;
- Four Mobile Operators are sending Short Message Service (SMS) about the People’s Military Service Law to combat rumours and false information circulating in the public.
- Ministries/organizations, Nay Pyi Taw Council and Regions/States are given authority for exemption, mitigation and temporary postponement regarding military service designed by Central Body in addition to exemption and temporary postponement prescribed in the law. So, such authority will be conducive to public concerns through education to civil servants and the public.
- Landline telephone service and cell phone service have been provided at the Office of Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Servants, Nay Pyi Taw Council and Regions/States to conduct enquiry about the said-issue in order to enquire and report. Likewise, the phone numbers are described in the State-run daily newspapers.
- Large numbers of volunteers are seen in the lists among the process of making lists, medical examination and call-up for military service.
- It is necessary to supervise and give guidance to the ward/township level officials for ensuring the enlistment of volunteers for sure and avoiding forced recruitment.
- It can be seen that the opposition organizations spread false information and disinformation on social media and threaten the lives of ward/village-tract administrators and officials.
- Action is being taken against those who spread fake news and make threats. Responsible organizations should invest in acting on information from the public to be able to take action and reduce false information and such threats.
- It is required to conduct continuous military trainings for people’s military servants in designated strength. All central body members need to discuss and suggest about it.
Vice-Chairman of the Central Body, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye discussed the following points:
- It is required to assign only polite persons at the call centres being established by respective regions/states for enquiry. The assigned persons need to carefully answer the questions raised by the public.
- Those who are carrying out the process of calling-up for military service need to do correctly without bias. Again, continuous education programme about People’s Military Service Law should be made for broader public knowledge.
Also present were Vice-Chairman of the central body Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye, Secretary of the Central Body Adjutant General Lt-Gen Soe Min Oo, members of Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Servants: Union ministers; Chairman of Naypyitaw Council and other officials while Chairmen of Regions/States Committee on Summoning People’s Military Servants joined the meeting via videoconferencing, reports say.
