Narcotic Drugs to be transported to Sittway Seized at Bayintnaung Port, Mayangon Township

Joining hands with responsible citizens, the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and Anti-narcotic Task Force Myanmar is beefing up to carry out anti-narcotic measures in Myanmar.

          Responsible citizens provided tip-off about the fugitive Thant Zin Oo, an incharge person of logistics for AA insurgent group that he had contacted another fugitive May Yu Tun and has been transporting narcotic drugs to Sittway and Buthidaung towns via Yangon. Acting on the tip-off, authorities arrested drug-related offender Tun Thein Aung and his wife Su Myat Wai in Tarmwe Township on 21 March 2024.

          According to the confession of the arrested offenders:

  • Authorities have seized one billion kyats worth of one million pinkish stimulant tablets (labeled WY) in cardboard box in “MV-Sein Pyae Min” cargo ship which is running to Sitway from Yangon and currently docking at No (2) jetty of bayintnaung Port in Mayangon Township.
  • As the fugitive Thant Zin Oo, her cousin sister’s man, offered 20 million kyats her for the transport of narcotic drugs to Sittway from Yangon on 14 March, she consulted with her husband and agreed with the said-offer.
  • On 20 March, the fugitive Kyaw Paing Thu, the son of the fugitive Thant Zin Oo, delivered narcotic drugs to the arrested offenders. Next, they packed the drugs and put them inside the cardboard box in the mixture with “Gorzilla” soap bars and loaded on the “MV-Sein Pyae Min” cargo ship for the transport to Sittway from Yangon.

It is found out that AA insurgent group is earning money to have enduring existence and purchase necessary arms/ammunition. Again, the group has been widely committing drug-trafficking crimes that harm man-kinds including the youths of next generation. Since 2016 to date, authorities have seized 294.82 billion kyats worth of nine drug-related offences in which AA insurgent members are involved in.

Authorities are conducting necessary measures to take legal action against the arrested drug-related offenders and continuing relevant offenders including the fugitive Thant Zin Oo and Kyaw Paing Thu, it is reported.
