Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context; 

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread propaganda on social media platforms claiming that there has been a significant exodus of people to border areas as well as foreign countries because of the People’s Military Service Law. It is just a vague rumor. In truth, the NUG group creates such kind of misinformation, persuading young people to join terrorist organizations.
  • “DVB TV News”, an unofficial media source, circulated false news on social media platforms stating that the women, who live in the wards and villages of Hmawbi Township, are also being put in the registration list for military service. This is just a groundless allegation. In reality, for the time being, there is no plan to call up women under the People's Military Service Law yet but the officials are systematically educating people about the facts related to the People's Military Service Law in the wards and villages.
  • “Ayeyarwaddy Times”, an unofficial media source, posted misinformation on social media platforms alleging that security forces shelled Kalay Town, killing and injuring some civilians. In truth, two innocent civilians were killed due to a bomb-blast planted by PDF terrorists.      
  • “DVB TV News”, an unofficial media source, spread false news on social media platforms claiming that Kyone Pyaw Township administrators extorted money around million kyats from those who do not want to serve military service. It is just a baseless propaganda. In reality, township administrators have just educated the people in the said-township to clarify the rumors related to People’s Military Service Law circulated on social media platforms. But they did not extort any money from the people.
  • “Ayeyarwaddy Times”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that a man, who live in Shwe Taung Su ward of Kyankhin Town and had complaint about military service, was detained. An hour later, he died. It is just allegation. In truth, U Than Tun Aye rudely treated to members of administrative body, presuming them to be the ones who came to make list for military service. So he was being questioned at the police station. Meanwhile, he has already had an epileptic fit and felt his disease. Accordingly, the concerned authorities let his elder sister and companion to bring him back to home. However, he died during his medical attention at the hospital.

          Subversive media and terrorist organizations are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information all the time to disrupt all citizens’ chance to learning military knowledge in accordance with the laws. In this regard, state-run media are continuously broadcasting the news related to military service in order to prevent the youths going down the wrong path, reports say.
