Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread propaganda on social media platforms claiming that there has been a significant exodus of people to border areas as well as foreign countries because of the People’s Military Service Law. It is just a vague rumor. In truth, the NUG group creates such kind of misinformation, persuading young people to join terrorist organizations.
  • “DVB TV News”, an unofficial media source, circulated false news on social media platforms stating that the women, who live in the wards and villages of Hmawbi Township, are also being put in the registration list for military service. This is just a groundless allegation. In reality, for the time being, there is no plan to call up women under the People's Military Service Law yet but the officials are systematically educating people about the facts related to the People's Military Service Law in the wards and villages.
  • “Ayeyarwaddy Times”, an unofficial media source, posted misinformation on social media platforms alleging that security forces shelled Kalay Town, killing and injuring some civilians. In truth, two innocent civilians were killed due to a bomb-blast planted by PDF terrorists.

          Subversive media which support terrorists are poisoning the entire population with fake/false information all the time, hiding true stories. Those media are intentionally circulating one-sided accusation against the Tatmadaw on social media platforms to disturb peace and stability in the country, reports say.
