Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

• “Kachin News Group”, an unofficial media source, spread misinformation on social media platforms alleging that security personnel shelled Bhamo, causing casualties of civilians. It is just an allegation. In reality, terrorists recklessly attacked with motor fire on security personnel in Bhamo and their stray shells hit some villages nearby that caused casualties of local residents.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, created fake news on social media platforms claiming that the Tatmadaw personnel killed over 30 civilians in Minbya and they launched artillery attack on Myoma Market of Sittway, claiming lives of some residents. It is just a groundless accusation. In reality, AA insurgents launched mortar fire, electrically initiated rocket fire and drone attack on villages and towns in Rakhine State. However, they created misinformation on social media platforms to put the blame on the Tatmadaw and to feel the people misunderstand over it.

          In order to create public fear as well as public misunderstanding, subversive media sources and those, who do not want community peace, put the blame on the security personnel and create one-sided false/fake news on social media platforms, covering up the terrorists’ acts, it is reported.
