Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated misinformation on social media platforms alleging that at least 16 houses were burnt to ashes in Hsihseng Township and Hopong Township as the Tatmadaw shelled and launched airstrikes as well as drone attacks with firebomb. It is just an allegation. In truth, KNDF, PNLA, and PDF terrorists attacked security personnel, who are conducting security operation, and deliberately shelled and launched drone attacks on the-said townships, resulting in houses being destroyed by fire.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, created fabrication on social media platforms claimng that the Tatmadaw has held the youths in Taungdwingyi and Danuphyu towns for recruitment. It is just a vague rumor. In reality, such media is purposefully making propaganda to mislead the public into thinking about the Tatmadaw.

          In order to create public fear and create public misunderstanding, subversive media sources and those, who do not want community peace, put the blame on the security forces and create one-sided false/fake news on social media platforms, covering up the terrorists’ acts, it is reported.
