Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo Attends 8th Eastern Economic Forum

The State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo and delegation has returned to Yangon on 15 September after participating in the 8th Eastern Economic Forum which was held in Vladivostok of the Russian Federation from 10 to 13 September. During the forum:

  • From 10 to 12 September, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Union Minister for Industry, and Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism actively engaged in various panel discussions.
  • On 10 September, Myanmar delegation met a delegation led by Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Managing Committee of Roscongress Foundation Mr. Anton Kobyakov to discuss ongoing and future work plans between the two countries.
  • On 10 September also, Myanmar delegation met the officials from Aquarius Technology Company to discuss digital-related matters of Myanmar, cyber security, cooperation in sinformation and technology sectors, and chances for investments.
  • On 12 September, they met Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Mr. Maxim Reshetnikov to discuss the fourth meeting of the Russia-Myanmar Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, bilateral trade progress, and cooperation roadmaps.
  • Further discussions with First Deputy CEO Mr. Sergey Pavlov of JSC Russian Railways focused on railway infrastructure, collaboration projects at locomotive and coach plants in Myanmar, technical and financial assistance to Myanmar’s railway sector, and investments in dry port construction.
  • The delegation also explored economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries and promoted Myanmar-Russia bilateral trade and investment during talks with Mr. Ivan Viktorovich Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council.
  • Myanmar delegates attended the Main Forum-Plenary Session of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum.
  • The delegation met the Governor of Ikut to discuss development-related matters, tourism, and economic cooperation between two countries.
  • On 13 September, they also discussed potential sea route trade and bilateral cooperation in the tourism industry with the Governor of Primorsky Region of the Russian Federation.
  • The delegation’s agenda also included meetings with officials from Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) to discuss about the implementation of the MoU between the Ministry of Health and FEFU, the starting of cooperation between two universities, and the establishment of an FEFU office in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • As part of their visit, the delegation visited the Commercial Port of Vladivostok to study port operations and management using advanced computer system, and the port to be established in the future.
  • The Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar and the Vice-Governor of the Russian Central Bank signed an agreement on bank account opening in order to facilitate the investment and payment sectors between two countries.
  • The Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and the Russian Minister for Economic Development signed an MoU on tourism cooperation aiming to strengthen the cooperation in tourism industry.

The forum was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo along with Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Union Minister for Industry, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Secretary General of the UMFCCI and high-ranking officials from the relevant ministries, it is reported.
