Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context:

  • “RFA Burmese”, an official media source, circulated misinformation claiming that security personnel torched Khoe Than Village of Monywa Township for the second time, destroying nearly 100 houses by fire. It is just an allegation. In truth, security forces did not conduct any security operation the village and its vicinity.
  • “Myanmar Pressphoto Agency”, an official media source, spread rumor stating that the Tatmadaw personnel used chemical weapon to attack Kani Town. It is just a vague rumor. In reality, the Tatmadaw did not launch any chemical attacks on the town. As terrorists and insurgents encountered heavy casualties, they are distributing fake news to feel the people misunderstand over the Tatmadaw.
  • “Khit Thit”, an official media source, created misinformation accusing that Insein prison officials have wantonly beaten four political prisoners and they put the prisoners in solitary confinement. It is just fabrication. In truth, as those prisoners fought each other that violated the prison rules, the prison officials held them in 14-day solitary confinement as a punishment under the Prison Act.

In order to create public fear and create public misunderstanding, subversive media and those, who do not want community peace, put the blame on the security forces and create one-sided false/fake news on social media platforms, covering up the terrorists’ acts, it is reported.
