Central Committee on Prevention of Human Trafficking Holds Meeting 1/2023

The State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Committee on Prevention of Human Trafficking, delivered a speech at the 1/2023 meeting of the Central Committee which was held at the Areindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force HQs on 11 September as follows:

  • In conducting the measures to combat human trafficking, Myanmar has been simultaneously implementing the 21 tasks adopted by the Central Committee on Prevention of Human Trafficking as well as 2023 of the second year of the the fourth five-year plan on trafficking in person which will last from 2022 to 2026.
  • Under the current situations of the country, there are instigations affecting political instability by abusing information technologies including social network media.
  • Criminals including human traffickers operate online.
  • Myanmar faces challenges such as forced labour and online financial fraud committed by the criminals including foreigners, necessitating robust preventive measures.
  • Foreigners encountering difficulties after entering Myanmar from border regions seek help through embassies and international police channels. Then, Myanmar could handed those foreigners facing difficulties to their relevant countries.
  • Myanmar collaborates with China and Thailand on operations targeting human trafficking, forced labour, and illegal border crossings, as part of international efforts. According to the agreements among those countries, Myanmar, China and Thailand conducted operation to combat online scam in Mae Sot of Thailand and took actions against them.
  • Moreover, Myanmar participated in the Operation FLASH-WEKA under the arrangements of INTERPOL and AFRIPOL.
  • In drawing the 2024 work plan, it need to include the measures to combat human trafficking as well as  the supression of trafficking in persons.
  • Members acknowledged the evolving nature of human trafficking in Myanmar and pledged collaborative efforts to implement effective solutions for better outcomes.

The meeting was attended by the central committee members headed by the committee chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, departmental representatives and those members who joined through online, totalling 47.
