The Launching Ceremony of the Yangon-Mandalay-Novosibirsk flight service of Myanmar Airways International (MAI) was held at the Yangon International Airport on 5 September. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khin, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Command Commander, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Deputy Head of the Russian Embassy to Myanmar Mr. Pavel Klapukov, officials from Department of Civil Aviation, CEO of Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited and officials concerned, and distinguished guests.
During the ceremony, the deputy minister for Transport and Communications said as follows:
- The maiden flight of MAI’s Myanmar-Russia is a new step which is of importance in closer cooperation between Myanmar and the Russian Federation.
- Through the Myanmar-Russia direct flight network, the tourism business, trade and investment activities between the two countries can be developed more, and friendly cooperation in all sectors will be enabled, contributing much to the nation economic development.
Then, deputy minister and officials cut the ribbon to open the Yangon-Mandalay-Novosibirsk flight service of MAI, and union minister, deputy minister and those present at the ceremony took a commemorative photo.
The Yangon-Mandalay-Novosibirsk direct flight of MAI will be operated twice a week on Tuesday and Saturday, it is reported.
