Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context:

  • “RFA Burmese” and “Khit Thit”, two unofficial media sources, created disseminated misleading reports alleging that security forces have apprehended more than 100 Muslim individuals in Kyaukpyu Township, while also purportedly rallying civilians in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay region for military duty. However, these claims are unsubstantiated. In truth, the Tatmadaw has not engaged in such actions.
  • “Than Lwin Times”, an unofficial media source, circulated false information claiming that security forces had conducted nighttime arrests of youths in Mawlamyine for military service on various pretexts. However, this claim remains unsubstantiated and appears to be a baseless rumour. In reality, combined security forces are conducting periodic community safety checks, but there have been no instances of forced recruitment or abduction.

With the purpose to make public panic, subversive media abetting terrorists and those who disturb community peace and tranquility are spreading one-sided misinformation on social media platforms that security personnel are forcibly making arrests of people. Again, those media are creating fabrication to make the youths join the terrorist organizations as well as the people feel hatred for the Tatmadaw, it is reported.
