Some PNLA members who dislike internal peace and a combined force comprising KNDF and KNPP terrorists launched a surprise raid on security personnel along the highway. Next, the terrorists blocked main points of the highway. As a consequence, public travel and flow of goods were temporarily suspended. To relieve the local residents’ concerns, security personnel have conducted counter-terrorism operation along Hsihseng-Mong Pun Road since 22 February.
After the Tatmdaw personnel engaged the terrorists for 16 times, they gained control of the Union Highway on 29 February. Since 1st of March, goods and passenger traffic can run along the road as usual. During the operation, some security personnel died in battle and got injured, however, they seized dead bodies of some terrorists, their weapons/ammunition and related items.
Terrorists block non-military targets of public Highway, collect money by extortion and earn money from the business of arms-smuggling and drug-trafficking. Further they are acting to disturb community peace. Hence, security personnel, joining hands with locals, are launching counter-terrorism operation, it is reported.
