A fake story was posted on the website of “The Business Standard”, a Bangladeshi media, that the State Administration Council (SAC) is making list of Bengalis in the refugee camps of Rakhine State for military service, offering them free travel. Likewise, “Dhaka Tribune” News Agency in Bangladesh circulated rumors that a lot of Bengalis were taken to fight in ongoing armed clashes. With regards to those fake stories, the Rakhine State Government’s Spokesperson clarified as follows:
- Some Bangladeshi news agencies are stating false news, referring the groundless information of some unofficial and subversive media.
- Bengalis are not even Myanmar citizen. Moreover, The People’s Military Service Law is only at the stage of forming state and regional committees. It still needs to form many committees at different levels, such as district, township and ward/village. Other by-laws are still left to be issued. So, the aforesaid fabrication is totally wrong.
Following the enactment of People’s Military Service Law, unofficial and subversive media are creating fabrication to raise concerns among citizens and residents. The State Administration Council (SAC) has also publicly announced true information about People’s Military Service Law for all citizens via state-run newspaper and state-run media, it is reported.
