Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Narinjara”, an unofficial media, created a vague rumour that Rakhine young people at the age between 18 and 35 are not allowed to go to Rakhine State from Yangon by flight. It is just misinformation. In reality, security forces did not make such restriction.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media, created a vague rumour that security personnel torched Kan Htoo Ma Village in Taze Township. It is just an allegation. In reality, security personnel engaged an armed clash with terrorists near the village. Security personnel are continuing to conduct security duty but they did not burn any houses.

           With the purpose to cause public panic, subversive media abetting terrorists and those who disturb community peace and tranquility are spreading one-sided misinformation on social media platforms that security personnel forcibly arrested people. Again, those media are creating fabrication to make the youths join the terrorist organizations as well as the people feel hatred for the Tatmadaw, it is reported.
