The Kayin traditional white thread tying (wrist-tying) ceremony was held in Myaungmya of Ayeyawady region on 28 August. The ceremony was opened by Mahn Nyein Maung, a member of the State Administration Council, by beating the frog drum nine times and delivering a greeting speech.
Regional Ethnic Affairs Minister explained the purpose of the ceremony. Chairman of the Kayin Ethnic Literature and Culture Association of Ayeyawady Region, gave words of thanks.
Then, young Kayin youths carried white cotton items and placed them in front of Mahn Nyein Maung and other officials. They offered the white cotton items to them.
Mahn Nyein Maung, a member of the State Administration Council, Ayeyawady region Chief Minister, the leader of the advisory group of the SAC and the commander of the South-Western Command, concerned officials and invited guests attended the ceremony, it is reported.
