Heavy torrential rains hit Kayin State causing a series of landslides section between mileposts 149 and 150 on 7 August. Due to the landslides, vehicles could not pass through the section causing road traffic.
As such, the teams of the bridge department under the Ministry of Construction started the construction of the 70-foot-long, 19-foot and 10-inch-wide steel decking Bailey bridge with the 55-tonne withstanding, starting from 10 August as quickly as possible. The Bailey Bridge bears a 13-foot and eight-inch wide motorway. The construction was completed on 24 August and the bridge resumed the linkage of transport on the highway as usual starting on 25 August. The Ministry is taking necessary measures to repair the damaged areas where landslides occurred as early as possible, it is reported.

- The construction works of the steel decking bailey bridge on the landslide-affected Thaton-Hpa-an-Kawkareik-Myawady Section of the Asia Highway was already finished on 24 August and vehicles can pass through it as usual starting from 25 August.
