State Administration Council Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun’s Clarifications for Public Awareness regarding Subversive Media and their Deeds for Public Panic

The SAC Information Team leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made clarifications on 24 February for public awareness regarding subversive media and their deeds for public panic:

  • Subversive media are circulating rumors and fake news regarding ongoing fights. They focus on spreading misinformation as if “Certain amount of Tatmadaw personnel had recently died in the battle”.
  • As a threat to the public, they make propaganda saying that “They have occupied somewhere and will carry on for another objective”.
  • He said that he wanted to bring it into question, “How many youths, who joined PDF terrorist groups, have died and fallen into ruin? Who, insurgent youths taking up arms in a non-democratic means, can contact with their parents and relatives? To what extent can they be in a comfortable or in a secure life?”
  • Subversive media threatened the people through spreading false news when People’s Military Service Law has come into force that all youths have to enlist in the armed forces and they must instantly perform military operations.
  • The Government has publicized contact numbers for direct clarifications regarding such groundless information. Central Body for Summoning Peoples’ Military Servants and information teams have been formed and true information has been being released to the public.
  • All news about forced arrests of the youths, forced recruitment and forced porters are just vague rumours. If anybody receives accurate information regarding those rumours, he/she can contact the numbers we provided any time to inquire about it.

In conclusion, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun clarified that the Government has worked to secure the people’s socio-economic status and to build strong politics, economy and defence powers. He also urged the people to deliberate over the media’s outlets that make public fear and the threats uttered by NUG and CRPH terrorist groups as well as some EAOs and he encouraged that the entire population should work together in unity.
