Terrorists Blast bomb on Railway Track on Bridge No (145) between Painzaloat and Kyauktaga Stations, Nyaunglebin Township

 At 9:30 PM on 20 February, terrorists blasted bomb on railway track on the bridge no (145) at the mile post (103/6-7) between Painzaloat and Kyauktaga stations, Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region and fled away.

During the bomb blast, two railway tracks were broken up about 70 ft each, 75 concrete sleepers were destroyed and five perforations measuring five ft occurred on the bridge deck. As a consequence, 914 down freight train, 914-A down freight train, 914-B down freight train, 653 up freight train carrying stone blocks, 902 down freight train have stopped at Kanyutgwin station, Phu station, Kywepwe station, Oaktwin station, Thaungtaigon station respectively. Likewise, 11 up passenger train leaving Yangon has stopped at Nyaunglebin station.

Concerned local officials, security personnel timely arrived at the scene and check around it. Myanma Railways personnel conducted repair works to restore the railway transport as early as possible. In the afternoon, the damaged rail segments were run again and the stopped trains moved ahead to their regular destinations.

From 1st of February 2021, terrorists and insurgents have committed 130 bomb blasts in the area of railway stations, 47 bomb blasts on railway bridges, 12 arson attacks on station structures and family housings for staff, it is reported.

Officials from the road/bridge Department are currently engaged in swift repair efforts to restore the damaged bridge. Meanwhile, security forces are carrying out a counter-terrorism operation in response to the incident, it is reported.

The Government is launching projects to upgrade railway transport system for convenient public travel and goods transportation. By contrast, terrorists and insurgents are threatening the people not to dare to use railway transport by repeatedly committing acts of vandalism on locomotives, carriages, passengers and goods. They are willfully vandalizing the upgrade work of the project for Yangon-Mandalay railway track in order to delay works. The entire local people are strong opposing and condemning such terrorist acts, said Myanma Railways source.
