Fossil Enthusiasts and Experts can Study the Fossils in Thanbo Village of Kyaukpadaung Township

The Hotels and Tourism Supervising Department is taking measures to turn the area of Thanbo Chaunghpya, Thanbo Alal and Thanbo Ywarthit villages into the Community-Based Tourism area because million-year-old Ingyin fossils and ancient iron smelting furnaces were found there.

According to the findings in the area:

· The Ingyin fossil which have been excavated has 74 feet in length and 5 feet 7 inches in width and found at 17 feet below.

· Around 100 kinds of fossil fragments believed to be parts of primates have been collected. However, only 7 of them were found to be primate fossils.

· Unknown similar primate fossils which are believed to be the ancestors of humans about 4000 million years ago was also found. The fossil found in the area is also similar to the Pondaung primate.

· Thanbo village is located next to the Mount Poppa Koe Kwe forest and many Ingyin fossils were found in the vicinity of the village.

· In the tamarind forest to the east of Thanbo Chaunghpya village, there stand many iron smelting furnaces which were used in forging weapons for the Kings of Bagan dynasty.

· The Thanbo Chaunghpya is also found out to be the village selling traditional medicines to the pilgrims from various parts of the country.
