COVID-19 Prevention, Control, and Treatment Activities Continue in Respective Regions and States

COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment activities such as opening quarantine centres and vaccinating people against COVID-19 continue in respective regions and states.

· The vaccination processes continue in respective regions and states as per the priority programme, and a total of 84,451 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 29,070 people as first dose on 9 January.

· A total of 3,161 students aged 12 years and above from Basic Education Middle and High schools in respective regions and states have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 414 students as first dose on 9 January. A total of 1,511,471 students have been vaccinated against COVID-19 till 9 January 2022.

· Local people from Kyaukpyu and Pauktaw townships of Rakhine state and people aged 18 years and above who are taking shelter in Kyauktalone IDP camps have been vaccinated against COVID-19. 

· The Ministry of Health is monitoring the outbreak of the Omicron COVID-19 variant and accordingly accelerating its all-round efforts such as speeding up the prevention and control activities, making preparations for Quarantine Centres, Treatment Centres, and medical supplies including oxygen, and cooperating with other relevant Ministries, local authorities, generous donors and philanthropists.

· As of 9 January, 21 million people in total have been vaccinated against COVID-19. About 16.6 million people have received two-time full doses of the vaccine and 4.4 million people have received the first doses. 37.6 million people in total have been inoculated against COVID-19 in Myanmar.

The Ministry of Health is conducting COVID-19 tests regularly, 137 new cases of COVID-19 were found from testing a total of 8,822 samples and the infected rates are 1.55 percent on 9 January. Until 9 January 2022, a total of 532,062 cases were found from testing a total of 6,131,776 samples and death toll reached 19,291.
