Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Ayeyarwaddy Times”, unofficial media outlet, circulated false news propagating that the Tatmadaw personnel gunned down twelve Pa-O ethnic people, who refused to be deployed to the front line area, from Aungsubway Drug Addiction Treatment Rehabilitation Camp in Hsihseng Township. It is just an allegation. In reality, the Tatmadaw, joining hands with members of the Pa-O militiamen, are regularly conducting security measures within and around the township to ensure peace and stability.
  • “Khit Thit” and "Zalen," two unofficial media, created false information on social media platforms that the youths in Thanlyin Township have been conscripted in the military compound to use them as porters, and over 100 people were detained in major cities after the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law. It is just vague rumors. In reality, the youths have undergone disaster rescue training for two weeks in Thanlyin but no underage individuals were involved in the training. Moreover, the Tatmadaw personnel have not abducted any civilians.
  • “Mizzima”, an unofficial media, propagated that a female political prisoner died due to inadequate medical attention at Obo Prison. It is just a vague rumor. In reality, the said-woman suffers heart disease, hypertension, anemia and emphysema. She had been received the treatment by a doctor at the prison hospital. However, she died of kidney damage and urinary incontinence during medical treatment at the public hospital.

          PDF terrorists taking position in houses snipe at security personnel; launch bomb attacks on the latter; use locals as human shield; and make arson attacks on residential houses on their way of retreat. Unofficial and subversive media outlets are willfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to cover up terrorists’ acts and create a misleading impression among local people and security personnel, it is reported.
