Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, circulated false information on social media platforms that security forces burned down Kanse Village in Myingyan Township and took 300 IDPs as hostages. It is just fake news. In reality, the security forces engaged in security operations near that village had a clash with the PDF terrorists but no arrests were made.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that community defense force members burned two PDF terrorists to death. It is just an allegation. In reality, PDF terrorists attacked the security forces members conducting security operation in Myauk Khin Yann Village of Gangaw Township and community defense force members but they experienced heavy casualties and retreated in disorder. No terrorists were arrested.
  • “RFA Burmese” and “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, created false information on social media platforms that the Tatmadaw killed three women including one pregnant woman and three children in Shartaw Township, Kayah State. It is just a vague rumour. In reality, the Tatmadaw neither carried out any security operation in the township nor killed any IDPs.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, created rumours that around 2,000 veterans from various states and regions were gathered in Nay Pyi Taw and deployed them to the front line areas after conducting military training for two weeks in Taungdwingyi. It is just misinformation. In reality, groups of military veterans, including retired civil servants, came to pay obeisance to the Maravijaya Buddha Image in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • “Narinjara”, an unofficial media outlet, alleged that the Tatmadaw launched air-borne poison gas attack against Yanbye town in Rakhine State. It is just a vague rumor. In reality, the Tatmadaw did not launch any poison gas bombs against the town.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that the people in Hsi Hseng fled from the danger as the Tatmadaw personnel shelled the villages in the township although there were no clashes. It is just an allegation. In reality, the combined group comprising PNLA, KNDF and PDF terrorists shelled from a distance and launched a drone attack on His Hseng Township, killing some local people and injuring some others.
  • “DVB TV News and Mizzima”, two unofficial media outlets, spread false information on social media platforms that the political prisoners in Kyaikmaraw prison are on a hunger strike. It is just a vague rumor. In reality, there is no hunger strike in the prison at all.
  • “RFA Burmese and Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that security forces conducted checks for security near Legyi village on the Mandalay-Monywa road and Zaloat roundabout near University of Economics in Sagaing Township and arrested the passers-by. It is just fake news. In reality, there were no checks for security by security forces near Legyi village and regular security checks are being carried out near Monywa University of Economics Zaloat roundabout, as part of routine measures.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that there were almost no passers-by in Monywa City due to the Tatmadaw’s arrest of the youths. It is just misinformation. In reality, the Tatmadaw has not conducted such actions and there are regular comings and goings in the city.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, created fake news on social media platforms that the Tatmadaw killed three men and torched five houses in Seitthar Village in Madayar Township. It is just false news. In reality, no arrival of military columns on the village was reported, and the Tatmadaw personnel neither killed three villagers nor torched their houses.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, accused the Tatmadaw that some religious buildings and residential houses were destroyed during the artillery shells and airstrike of the Tatmadaw on His Hseng Township. It is just an allegation. In reality, PDF terrorists launched arson attacks on Aung Chan Thar Ward in the township as they did not receive any supplies they need.

          PDF terrorists taking position in houses snipe at security personnel; launch bomb attacks on the latter; use locals as human shield; and make arson attacks on residential houses on their way of retreat. Unofficial and subversive media outlets are willfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to cover up terrorists’ acts and create a misleading impression among local people and security personnel, it is reported.
