The ceremony to commission eight vessels including a 60-metre multipurpose buoy handling vessel, two pairs of dredgers, and three harbour launches to provide better port industry and navigation services was held at Pasotan Health Jetty of Kyauktada Township in Yangon region. It was attended by member of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo, Yangon Chief Minister, Commander of Yangon Region Command and departmental officials.
At the ceremony, the Union Minister highlighted the points as follows:
- The maritime trade in global development is directly connected with the international trade and is very important for the development of the country's socio-economic life.
- The Ministry of Transport and Communications spent $20.6 million on eight new modern vehicles to provide better services Myanmar Port Authority and maritime operations.
- Stakeholders, the Myanmar Port Authority and private port bridges, have installed and utilized evolving technology and equipment to improve their service systems and capabilities for international trade. In order to advance from the Electronic Port (e-Port) level to the Smart Port level through Digital Transformation in the region, all-round effort and implementing it with the support of the State and the Ministry.
Subsequently, the managing director of Myanma Port Authority reported the developments of the port sector and the data of eight vessels. He showed a video footage of the construction of the eight vessels and presented a miniature of the "Gandha" vessel as a souvenir of the ceremony to the Union Minister.
The Union Minister and his team cut the ribbon at the ceremony to commission eight vessels on the main deck of the "Gandha" vessel. Next, they inspected the vessels and signed the record book visitor, it is reported.
