KIO/KIA Armed Insurgent Group Detonate Sann Shwin Hotel in Lashio due to Failure of Paying Extortion Money

On 7 February, an explosion of improvised explosive device took place at the frontage of Sann Shwin Hotel at Thukha Road in Lashio, Shan State (North). Responding to the information, a combined team comprising security personnel, together with other witnesses, investigated the incident. During the explosion, 27-year-old U Say Palal, a security employee of the hotel, got injured at his right wrist. Further, 18-year-old Ma Chaw Su Aung, a passer-by in front of the hotel, suffered a puncture wound in her front neck and another puncture wound in her left shin. Security personnel transported the victims to Lashio public hospital for undergoing medical treatment.

According to the identification, the KIO/KIA armed insurgent group sent a notice dated 3rd of February to the Sann Shwin Hotel to pay tax money prior to 5th of February, threatening the hotel would be taken severe action if it failed. It has been revealed that the terrorist carried out such violent bomb blast as the hotel failed to pay money for it.

Extreme armed terrorists are carrying out acts of violence on, murders of, armed robberies to and forced collection of extortion money under the reason of collecting tax from peaceable civilians and businessmen making money in honest way, resorting to their arms.  If the locals failed to follow their instructions, terrorists are committing inhumane crimes: kidnapping, killing, bombing and suchlike crimes.

Therefore, the Lashio Myoma police station filed a complaint against the two members of KIO/KIA armed insurgent group  under the Section 50(a)/50(i)/54 of the Counter-Terrorism Law, and is taking further to arrest the criminals.
